to avoid something or someone because they are dangerous or bad for you
examples:
1. I'm trying to lose weight so I have to steer clear of sweetened foods.
我想減肥，所以得避免吃甜品。
2. I'd steer clear of Billy if I were you - he'll only cause trouble.
